Post graduation my twin brother went on a road trip with two of his friends to explore 14 different national parks. As I usually turn to creative approaches for gifts, I knew exactly what I was going to give him as a graduation gift when he gave me a set of postcards from his travels. This was one of his favorite parks and one of the most vibrant postcards. If you have a postcard or a photo you want painted on a canvas, please visit my contact page and we can get connected to discuss pricing!

During the fall semester of my senior year, I completed my thesis and capstone. When registering for my spring semester, I wanted to take a step back from the constraints of the previous semester and branch out into package design. Package design is something I have been passionate about throughout my studies but I have not had the opportunity to practice. I value this form of creativity because packaging is what drives consumers, it is the crossroads of form and function with creativity and marketing, it is eye-catching, and can be beautiful. With that said, I decided to craft a syllabus for myself consisting of four different package design projects. I have followed two different design books for reference along with different designers and found inspiration. Alongside package design, I have been working on hand lettering. These skills were not outright taught to me in my graphic design minor courses, but there were speakers that came into my class to talk about their experience with both. Those lectures peaked my interest and lead me to take on this independent study. The experience has been different than other design classes without classroom critiques and ideas to bump off of classmates, but I have had a great mentor in the process. I still have one final project to be added to my portfolio as I wrap up my final semester, but please see my portfolio for current work.
I am a senior at Miami University and completed my senior thesis this semester as a student in the Interactive Media Studies program. The start of the semester was a little overwhelming when I was basically told the world is my oyster. With endless opportunities, I went about answering the questions of what problems I wanted to solve while keeping my interests, values, and aspirations in mind. As a graphic design minor, I knew I wanted to simultaneously embark on a stellar thesis while also improving my portfolio. The question I went about answering was how do we encourage hand written mail and simplify the shopping experience while still keeping an element of surprise?
There were ups and downs when creating the app and stationery. I am so happy to have collaborated with Moss & Blue, my featured artist. I love the final product I came up with and hope to continue into making Cross & Dot a real company. Check out my thesis page for more information!
I went into college with my heart set on being a graphic design major. I spent my freshman year in studio classes that I dreaded despite learning about different art forms. I was trekking through the classes telling myself that it would be worth it when I could sign up for graphic design courses in the future. I was crushed when I found out I didn't make it to the interview round of the application process because I was so heart set on the idea of being a graphic designer. It took some time, but I later realized that your major doesn't limit you to what you can become. As I explored my other options, I was introduced to Interactive Media Studies. Second semester of my sophomore year I started the IMS major, a little late in the game, but eager to try a new path. Soon to follow, I paired my IMS major with a graphic design minor. Now that I have found my niche, I haven't looked back, only forward. I love the courses I have taken and look forward to the career opportunities I hope to have in the future. |
